Burr medic (M. polymorpha) in association with new acid tolerant strains of rhizobia has proven to be well adapted to mildly acidic sandy loam soils. The species is characterised by high seed production and a strong capacity to regenerate after cereal cropping. Data collected in this project was used as a basis for the registration and release of Santiago, an improved cultivar of burr medic. Santiago has consistently shown higher seed production than the existing commerical varieties, Serena and Circle
