Ovine Johne's Disease (OJD) is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium paratuberculosis. The disease infects sheep, goats, and deer other than fallow deer and does not readily transfer to other animal species. It is a different disease to Bovine Johne's Disease. This Bulletin discusses the history of Ovine Johne's Disease in Australia, the spread of OJD, the signs, symptoms and identification of it, and how to reduce the cost and risk of the flock contracting OJD.
