Dogs are the final host for a group of very small tapeworms whose scientific name is Echinococcus. These tapeworms can also mature in other carnivores, including dingoes, foxes and cats. They have an intermediate life cycle in the form of a 'hydatid cyst' in other animals including kangaroos, sheep, pigs and humans.
