Grass tetany is a highly fatal disease of recently calved cows grazing on predominantly grass pastures. It is also known as grass staggers, hypomagnesaemic tetany and lactation tetany. This disease is associated with low blood levels of magnesium hypomagnesaemia . Mature cows at the peak of milk production are the most at risk, with sudden death a common feature.
