Abstract: This DVD discusses the causes of soil compaction and hard pans. The use of deep ripping aerates the soil and allows plant roots to penetrate the soil to find moisture. This leads to increased crop yields. However, not all soils respond to deep ripping, especially duplex soils, depending on the depth to clay. Timing of ripping and crop rotation are also important considerations when deep ripping. Ripping can assist in soil structure restoration.
