Abstract: Prolonged suppression of H. contortus was obtained even under conditions of heavy larval challenge, by including a treatment with the anthelmintic closantel with a broadspectrum drench in late November. The prolonged action of closantel (specific to Haemonchus) protected sheep during early summer, until pasture contamination with H. contortus larvae reached negligible levels. The timing of the closantel treatment was critical, as Haemonchosis occurred in sheep in other treatment crops. The "summer drench"
