Nearly all producers used the PHMS to monitor the health status of their herds and a large proportion used results to diagnose disease problems. A majority of producers used the PHMS to assess the effectiveness of treatment/control programmes within their own herds, most in consultation with a veterinarian. However, a relatively low percentage of producers ask prospective sources of breeding stock for PHMR results to assist in matching the health status of their herds. Sarcoptic mange and enzootic pneumon were the most common disease problems identified by PHMS inspections.
