To investigate the risk that corynetoxins might be entering the human food chain experiments were designed that maximised the chances of determining whether meat, offal or milk from animals consuming corynetoxins presented a risk of causing secondary toxicity. Clinical Annual ryegrass toxicity was produced in cattle by feeding them toxic ryegrass, and meat, offal and milk were collected from these animals. These products were then fed to pigs and rats.
