The MIDAS farm model was used to estimate the value of pasture in the Western Australian wheatbelt. It was found that increasing pasture productivity is potentially a high return area for investment in research. High marginal values of green feed in the late autumn and early winter indicate that research should focus on improving green feed availabiltiy in this period so as to increase farm stocking rates and/or reduce supplementary grain feeding.
