Over the ten years of the trial it was established that a sustainable stocking rate for animal production in the west Gascoyne on mixed bluebush-acacia shrubland was about one dry sheep equivalent to 4-5 hectares. Indicators of the threshold for sustainable use of west Gascoyne bluebush-acacia shrubland were 50 per cent of available browse of Gascoyne bluebush (Maireana polypterygia) or 20-50 kg/ha of available herbage, below which sheep production was depressed.
