Abstract: Footrot is a contagious disease of sheep and goats caused by a mix of different bacteria with the essential one being Dichelobacter nodosus. This Farmnote discusses the varying strains of Dichelobacter nodosus and the effects of each on sheep and goats. It also covers the signs of virulent and benign footrot, how to categorise footrot lesions, the various species affected by footrot, preventing benign footrot and biosecurity surrounding the bacterium in Western Australia.
