The aim of the project was to evaluate the role of lupin alkaloids in conferring resistance to aphid pests of lupins; to define the level of lupin tissue alkaloids which confer plant resistance, with a view to facilitating the process of breeding varieties of lupins resistant to aphids; to investigate any other aphid resistant factors that might be discovered during the project; to evaluate the relative tolerance of different aphid species to lupin tissue alkaloids.
