This project sought to determine the factors influencing water use by crops and pastures, and how they might be manipulated to increase total water use. Productivity of crops was shown to have limited impact on total water use, but later maturing crops may be able to use more water in some years and on some soil types. This could be useful in reducing, but not eliminating the reliance on other salinity control options in Western Australia.
