Abstract: Footrot is a contagious disease of sheep and goats caused by different bacteria; the important one is Dichelobacter nodusus. There are two main forms of footrot, virulent and benign. This Farmnote discusses the virulent strain, its symptoms and spread, quarantine restrictions, eradication options, prevention and an eradication program by the Western Australian Department of Agriculture that is currently underway.
