Late blight of potatoes is caused by the fungal pathogen Phytophthora infestans, thought to be from the highlands of Central Mexico. Phytophthora infestans has two mating types, A1 and A2. This Factsheet covers the distribution, impact and hosts of Phytophthora infestans as well as its symptoms and spread and the survival rate of potato plants infected by it.
