The pasture meter is unsuitable for use as a screening technique for biomass production as it is sensitive to microtopography, within plot variability, moisture conditions and plant type. Work conducted jointly with CSIRO (Floreat) using both wheat and barley genotypes has shown that spectral reflectance measurements are associated with biomass production.
