A range of oat cultivars and advanced breeding lines were tested. Amongst the lines tested were several dwarf oats based on the OT207 dwarf parent, which is being widely used in Australian oat breeding programmes. Hay yield was not related to height. Many of the dwarf oats had high hay yield, and good quality. Hay yield of a cultivar was also not related to grain yield. Use of the OT207 parent in oat breeding programmes will not lead to a lack of cultivars suitable for hay production in the future. Th
