Protea crops at Bridgetown and Kendenup were visited monthly between march 1989 and February 1990. Species of birds which damaged proteas were identified and the amount of damage to plants was assessed. Net profits were reduced at both study sites (Bridgetown reduction - 44%; Kendenup - 6%) as a result of damage caused chiefly by Red-capped parrots, Purpureicephalus spurius, and Port Lincoln ringnecks, Barnardius zonarius.
