Vaccination with various preparations of Dermatophilus congolensis filaments was shown to lessen the number and severity of lesions or increase the rate of lesion resolution in Merino sheep when challenged with the same strain D.congolensis in pen studies. Field studies involving natural challenge with D.congolensis gave disappointing results at one location that had a high prevalence of dermatophilosis. Cross protection studies comparing the AG1 strain and a field isolate showed that the strain variation
