This paper reports the results of 43 trials from 1979 to 1988, investigating tissue testing for nitrogen on wheat. The trials were of varying designs, measuring different nitrogen fractions (total N, nitrate N) in different plant parts (whole tops, youngest fully expanded leaves, oldest leaves, basal stems). Most of the trials investigated the relationship between nitrogen fractions measured in ten plant parts and the subsequent dry matter and grain yield response to nitrogen fertilizer applied immediat
