In the early 1980s experiments with deep ripping in Western Australia demonstrated some spectacular increases in wheat yield. This revived interest in deep ripping as a soil management practice. The survey form was mailed to 326 farmers throughout Western Australia in September 1988. The farmers selected were those known to, or thought to, have had experience with deep ripping on their farms.
