There appears to be cautious acceptance of single space wet and dry (SSWD) feeders by the Australian pig industry, but the recent economic down-turn in the industry has slowed down the rate of introduction. The benefits of SSWD feeders were generally considered to outweigh the disadvantages. Results from overseas experiments show that the greatest improvement in growth rate and feed conversion efficiency is likely to occur when SSWD feeders replace floor feeding.
