Once highly productive, the two main pasture legumes for the low rainfall portion of the nothern wheatbelt now fail to persist because of increased aphid attack. Both Cyprus barrel medic grown on the red clay-loams and Harbinger strand medic on the yellow sandplain soils have been severely affected. A previous project (DAW 42) identified a number of potential replacements for Cyprus and Harbinger.
