The Pi soil test for phosphorus (P) was evaluated in three field experiments on different lateritic soils in south-western Australia. In addition, in two experiments, the Colwell, Bray 1, calcium acetate lactate (CAL) and Truog soil P tests were also measured. The Pi soil test was closely correlated with the other soil tests, so that on this basis all reagents were equally predictive of yield. For all soil test reagents, the relationship between yield and soil test P differed with fertiliser type, reagentnd year. The soil test P values required to produce the same yield, about half the maximum yield measured at each site each year, differed for different soil test reagents, different P fertilisers, and different years. However, the range in soil test P
