Two desi chickpea lines (CTS 60543 and CTS 11308) with the reputation for having cold tolerance and the ability to set pods at low night temperatureswere introduced to Australia from ICRISAT. Their flowering response and pod set were compared to Tyson and CPI 56288 desi chickpeas. The flowering response to temperature and photoperiod of CTS 60543 differed markedly from the responses of Tyson and CPI 56288, suggesting a difference in vernalisation requirement. The response of the latter chickpea lines w etter pod set at lower temperatures. More work with the two introduced chickpea lines is warranted.
