Abstract:
Two experiments were conducted to determine the efficacy of the antibiotic Virgiamycin to aid adaptation by cattle to diets containing 90% cereal grain. Three dietary treatments were applied in experiment 1, with two conventional adaptation treatments represented by wheat replacing increasing amounts of hay over 12 days with or without added Virginiamycin (40 g/t). The third treatment was an abrupt adaptation to a 90% wheat diet with 40 g/t of Virginiamycin starting on day 1. The duration of the experimen
