Abstract: (En)
Grain legumes are generally valued as stock feed because they have a high protein and energy content, are highly digestible and are very palatable. In formulated feeds the amino acid profile of the grain legumes generally complements that of cereal grains, and only small amounts of limiting amino acids, usually lysine and sometimes methionine, need to be added or drawn from alternative protein sources to give a balanced diet. The nutrient levels for four of the main grain legumes used in Australia are sumrised together with comparative data for soybean meal included because of its wide use in industry. Further details for these and other grain legumes are given, together with a discussion of their feeding value for ruminants, non-ruminants and in some c
