A seed dynamic model (named MEDSIST) is described which predicts the effects of long-term seed softening patterns on the density of burr medic (Medicago polymorpha) pastures in various farming systems that rely on self-regeneration of the pasture after crop years. The model incorporates the effects of variations between growing seasons on both seed production and on the proportion of soft seeds which produce establised plants. The model shows that while low proportions of seed softening in the first summe
