Over 60%, or 3.7million hectares, of the Western Australian cropping area is infested with Cereal cyst nematode (CCN, Heterodera avenae) and Root Lesion Nematode (RLN, Pratylenchus spp.). Pratylenchus neglectus is predominant followed by Pratylenchus teres and Pratylenchus penetrans. Pratylenchus thornei is rare. Rotations are the key to management as they are cost-effective, practical and environmentally responsible representing a significant economic benefit in increased cereal yield.
