The black-keeled slug is a pest of canola that can cause serious damage and yield losses. To prevent this, check crops at least twice a week for the first four weeks after seedlings emerge. Inspect paddocks at night using a torch to look closely at individual plants. During the day, check under moist areas such as timber and rock heaps. The most common control method is chemical control, usually in the form of baits containing methiocarb or metaldehyde.
