Ostrich Fading Syndrome (OFS) is a newly recognized disease entity that occurred in ostrich chicks in Australia in February, 1995. The syndrome consisted of wasting in chicks up to six months of age and usually ended in death. As part of a previous intensive investigation to determine the cause of the syndrome a retrovirus was isolated from small intestine and leukocyte explant cultures of affected birds.
