Cabbage is the same species (Brassica oleracea capitata) as cauliflower, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, kale and kohl rabi. Cabbage is also related to Chinese cabbage, radish, turnips and swedes. These plants are all members of the Brassica or crucifer family and are sometimes referred to as cole crops.
