The problem of soil salinity in the agricultural regions of western Australia to the east of the Darling Scarp has been well documented and publicised. However, the area to the west of the Darling Scarp - the Swan Coastal Plain - is not widely perceived as being affected by salinity to any great (or at least problematic) extents.
